Anne Kingston teaches Middle Eastern nationally. Qualified as a Diploma teacher through the prestigious JWAAD (Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance) course she has taught regularly throughout the UK for the last 12 years. A more recent passion has been nature photography after two years of college study and Anne is developing her nature photography work under the banner, Earthy Delights. Her images can be found on Flickr and Red Bubble photographic sites. Anne’s dance style is relaxed and fun and she specialises in Egyptian dance and performance skills. Helping students find natural flow by using elements from other disciplines such as Pilates to encourage safe and strong dance posture is of prime interest to Anne as a teacher and development of the dance in general. Previously Anne edited the Northern Arabic Dance Association magazine for several years and was a principal dancer with the Tarab Dance Company, performing at the Edinburgh Fringe twice. Their last show Strictly Bellydance was a sell out tour across the UK. Anne travels to Egypt regularly to study the latest techniques and research various aspects of the dance and organises trips to introduce UK dancers to the home of bellydance. Although her main destination is Cairo, in 2003 she discovered a love for deserts while trekking across the Sinai to raise money for Scope and since then has visited the White Desert, the Great Sea of Sand in the West of Egypt and in 2010 the South Eastern desert region. Anne has also conducted two dance weeks in Tunisia, the first purely a desert excursion and the second discovering Tunisia and Djerba. From 2011 Anne is adding to her travel itinerary and taking small groups for relaxing weekends in Marrakesh. She works with Farida Adventures and Desert Journeys to offer unique travel experiences for women. Previously trained in tap and jazz dance and with an interest in many other dance forms, Anne has studied Middle Eastern dance for over 15 years. She teaches regularly on the Northern residential dance course at Ford Castle, day courses at Alston Hall College and on residential weekends in Jersey and Marrakesh. Anne is also a regular teacher and show compere at the popular Jewel of Yorkshire (JOY) festival and teaches numerous workshops throughout the UK. As well as teaching weekly classes, presenting workshops and giving talks on Middle Eastern dance, Anne also researches and writes for the Northern Arabic Dance Association (NADA) magazine. She has been a trainer on the Josephine Wise Academy of Arabic Dance Foundation Course and is a trustee of the charity, Just Because, www.justbecause.org.uk, which raises money for women in Egypt with breast cancer.
