For a number of years i have had the burning desire to create my own book - over the years I have met with countless rejections and once I even came close to having my book published when I was mentored for a year by an editor. When I was told the book was a no - go I was crestfallen. My daughter who is a graphic designer and an art director told me that the likelihood that my book pitch would be seriously considered if I simply sent my package cold to an editor was slim to none. She said that you need to know someone or somehow become known to the editors. I sure can't say that I have become an overnight success. Hardly! I've been around for a very long time - been creating art and teaching for 35 years!!! I sort of had a loose plan - to first submit my writing and projects to online publications which I did and then to zines such as Artitude and Artella. Creativity portal is a wonderful site which gave me a good start in writing articles and submitting projects. I've had a website for 8 years and a blog for 4 years. Blogs are a great way for your fans to get to know you as well as magazine editors and publishers. After receiving some success and recognition online and in zines, I bravely stepped into the world of paper arts magazines such as Cloth Paper Scissors, Somerset Studios, Scrapbooking and Beyond, Altered Couture etc.......more exposure. Because I was already "out there" in the world of arts and crafts, my work became known. I was recommended for a couple of books - Kaleidoscope and Living the Creative Life and had some of my work featured in those books. Aha! Then the editors at the publishing house I was interested in knew my name and my work as well as my writing style. Writing for those online zines and creativity sites as well as hard copy magazines gave me the experience I needed to write my own book. So after sending a couple of pitches to the editors who were familiar with my work, one of my book proposals was finally accepted. As you can see, it was a several year process for me - definitely cumulative. Now here is where the manifesting part comes in - I had signs all over my magic cottage that said I had my own book and was in the process of writing my own book. In the past I had even made a mock up of a book to give the dream substance. Dreamboards were created, lists were made and left in places that they could be seen. Visualization played an important part in this dream too! I could actually see my book on the shelves in my local bookstore - I even pointed out to my mom - one day my book is going to be in there! I envisioned myself at book signings! And finally after years of dreaming it's becoming a reality! Visit Violette's website at
